Measured, not predicted

Who do AI engines actually recommend?

We ask AI answer engines the questions real buyers type, and record who gets named. No scraping, no estimates, every rate below is a measured citation share from live engine answers, re-run monthly.

How is a citation measured?

A citation is one answer, from one engine, that names or links the site. We put each buyer question to engines with live web access (Groq web search, Gemini grounded with Google Search and ChatGPT search), read every answer, and record every domain it named. The citation share for a site is the number of answers naming it divided by the number of answers tested. Engines that fail to answer are left out of the count rather than scored as a miss, so a bad API day cannot look like a lost customer.

Why does a high SEO score not guarantee a citation?

Because the two measure different things. An SEO or AI-search readiness score is a prediction made from the page itself: headings, structured data, robots rules, answer-shaped copy. A citation is a decision an engine makes after reading the whole web, and it leans on what other sites say about you. Our own homepage scores 100 for SEO and 97 for readiness and was named in none of the answers tested in its first month, which is the reason this index exists: the gap between the score and the citation is the work still to do.

Methodology

Each category has a fixed set of buyer questions. Every site in the category is tested against the same questions in the same period, using a live web-search AI engine. A site is "cited" when the engine names it or links it in the answer. Rates are the share of answers naming the site. Small samples are published as counts, not just percentages, so you can judge the strength of the evidence yourself. Any listed company can request a re-measurement at any time, free: contact us.

How do I get my site measured?

Ask, and it is free: name the category and the site, and it joins the next monthly run on the same questions as everyone else in that category. You can also measure yourself today: an Iris whole-site scan on any paid plan runs the same citation check against the same engines, grades your coverage from A to F, and lists the domains that were named instead of you.

Where does your own site stand?

Iris scores any page free and can check whether AI engines actually cite you.
